Say Their Names tracks the spontaneous, Black-led protests against police brutality that emerged in Minneapolis in late May, 2020. The protests, spurred by the murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis officers, led to unprecedented levels of unrest, state violence, and property damage. The series follows the events from their outset, offering a textured, wide-reaching visual record of the uprising. It also aims to commemorate and further this particular phase of a centuries-long movement for racial justice, one whose contemporary roots lie in Minneapolis but whose branches span the world.
