This series of Black and White photographs were made from 2016 to 2017. It captures the harsh volcanic landscapes that mountain runners have to cross to finish an ultra-race. Situated in Bromo Tengger Semeru Volcanic complex in Indonesia, endurance runners have to cover a distance of 170KM and climb an accumulated elevation of 10000m within two days. Most mountain runners will not complete this challenging distance, but if they do there are brought to the brink of exhaustion and at the very edge of their endurance. Why do they do it? Many replied it is because of the beauty of Bromo.
