At dawn on November 1st, 2016, Iraqi Counter Terror forces began their attack on Mosul, and would take another 8 months of deadly fighting to finally oust the Islamic State from the city, which the group took in a lightning in the summer of 2014. During the offensive to re-capture the city, air strikes, car bombs and street to street fighting would kill thousands of citizens and displace many more, as well as taking the lives of many of Iraqi soldiers and ISIS militants.
